battered...

-now playing 'Angel's Brought Me Here' by Guy Sebastian-

I read with amazement an article in the Sunday Times, one on battered husbands. This isn't a new topic but it never fails to astound me each time I read about it. I'm not saying that battered wives are a norm and should be tolerated. I'm against abuse on all levels, be it child, adults or animals.. It's simply wrong. But the mental image of a husband being, get this, physically abused by the wife is simply disturbing.
I'm not being stereotypical here but women have always been seen as the more submissive and docile of the two genders. We are supposed to be more tolerant and nurturing. Yet, you see constant reports of female employees abusing their helpers, mothers abusing their children, and now, wives abusing husbands. What makes these people snap?

One punched the husband until he was left deaf in one ear. It's scary to read about the extent of the brutality, just because it is a woman administering the abuse. Yes, granted.. The trend has changed, you see women in positions of high authority. Women becoming more domineering and assertive. That's fine. But it is not fine when they turn abusive on their spouse. Hell, it is never fine when anyone turns abusive. Be it physical, mental or emotional abuse, it is just wrong. What is strange is the fact that many of these men suffer in silence... Experts liken it to an emotional dependency on their wives. Strange, ain't it?

Anyway, went to K-box with a couple of friends.. First time there and it was pretty fun. I have to admit, it was better than expected. My impression of karaoke places is that they are sleazy and dingy.. Boy, was I wrong. It was pretty stylishly decorated and very organised. So not sleazy... :P Definately worth going back..

And and and.... what is all that fuss about Zidane and the head butt?? Enough already!! So the man head butt someone.. Big deal! Just because it was Zidane that's why there's so much hype. If it were say, Ribery who did it, you think anyone would care? Hell no! Why must people shame him just because he did what he did? Its soccer for goodness sake!! I remember commenting that soccer reduces grown men to bawling kids on the field and I still stand by that. You see how the slightest nudge sends a player to the ground, clutch his knee and grimace in pain. Like wth... But then again, that would be the entertainment value of the sport. People watch it for all sorts of reasons but there is no denying the attention it garners when something sensational happens. It will be the talk of the town for a long time to come. Just like the Zidane incident.
I say, give the man a break and let him move on. He's retired, damnit.. Why put that burden on his shoulder just because he was damn good at penalty shootouts? It's overdone, over-rated and simply over. Find someone else to pick on.. Like Micheal Owen or something.
He's a legend who deserves all the recognition he can get for what he has done for the soccer arena... Don't bring him down just because he did something wrong. Granted, he's notorious for his foul temper.. So???

It's a very lazy Sunday afternoon.. As with all Sundays... I'm looking at my course materials... I still can't believe I'm going to start my course in less than 2 weeks... At least for the next 4 years, I know what I'll be doing... I'm excited and scared...
