Foreign workers or slaves?

It's appalling to hear of foreign workers being cheated by agencies who bring them into Singapore with the promise of jobs and big money.
It's even more heartbreaking to listen to how they have to sell their houses, land, cattle and even children in order to raise enough money to buy an air ticket to Singapore, in the hope of a better future.
Though I may not agree with the way certain nationalities work, that doesn't mean I can tolerate the way many of them are being treated by their superiors. Just because they are not local, doesn't give anyone the right to cheat or mistreat them. Caucasians are not local either but you don't see them being treated shabbily by the locals.
Just because these foreign workers are willing to take on jobs our own people shun, doesn't give anyone the right to treat them any less than an equal. We claim to be a cosmopolitan city, a first world nation but the attitudes and behavior of Singaporeans locally and abroad is nothing short of shocking.
Where has all that education gone to? What has happened to our moral upbringing?
If this is where the next generation is heading for, a degradation of human rights, of humanity, then I'm ashamed to be Singaporean.
