Happy Valentine's Day!!!

It's been a really long time since my last blog entry.. I must confess, I have been really busy and
I have yet to get my lappie repaired.:P Yeah, I can be a real procrastinator.. Work has been super tiring but I'm enjoying it. I thank God for giving me the chance to give back what the school has given me. For those of you who don't know, where I'm a teacher now is where I was a student.. Cool huh? It's been a experience of many sorts. Culture shock, hell yeah.. From an atas environment to a very heartlandish one, you can be sure to experience lots of differences. Yet, despite those blatantly obvious ones, parents are the same everywhere. Just as demanding, nice or appreciative.

Just an anecdote of how adorably funny these kids can be.. The other day, I was having a lesson on the letter F and we were brainstorming on words that begin with 'f'. The usual 'flower', 'fish', 'funny' etc came forth. Then in the midst of the chaos, this little boy said, "TEACHER!! I know!!" So the whole class stopped and I was waiting in anticipation. (Note: this boy hardly contributes ideas in class) And he said, "4D!! My mummy and my ah kong always buy 4D!"

I was stunned beyond words. I was torn between laughing and correcting him. But I left it as it was and moved on with my lesson... And this was the same boy that contributed during my lesson on letter B. He said, "Bank!" So I was like, "You mean the place where you can withdraw money from? And he went, "No lah.. You know, when this car and that car hor, they drive very fast then they lang gar? That bank lah..." Then I knew what he meant... 'bang'

Yes, I'm enjoying work. Not to mention the shorter working hours. Gives me more time to do other stuff... Life in 2007 has been good thus far.. Work, school, family, friends, church and niceguy:)

Oh yes, before I forget.. Special thanks to Ms Sharon for the awesome tickets to watch the 1st leg of the Asean Football Championships between Singapore and Thailand!! *hugs* It was awesome man!! Ms Sharon called me on the day itself but I didn't answer the call so she gave the tix away... Then she smsed later in the day saying she has another 2 tickets!! Problem... We were supposed to meet at Kallang at 7.30pm but niceguy only finished work at 7pm. I was so frustrated, I almost gave the tickets away. Hence started the phonecall chain. Called Ms Sharon, Ms Sharon calls colleague, calls me back, I call colleague. Finally arranged to go down to Woodlands to pick up the tickets. Then had to take the train back to Jurong to wait for niceguy to pick me up. The drive down was pretty uneventful until we hit ECP.. Freaking long jam.. Took us about 45mins to get to Kallang when we were less than 10 minutes away.

Parked the car and called Ms Sharon. She said she's near a big tree... Like wth.. There had to be at least 50 big trees there.. Then niceguy said, "Why don't you tell her you're near the ice-cream vendor?" Omg.. Another one.. There were at least 4 ice-cream vendors!! And they were all moving!! So called Ms Sharon again and this time she said, "I'm under the banner." Again, there were like 20 banners!! Argh... Finally, she said, "We're under the Nike banner." And that was when we finally found her...

Went in to the stadium, climbed over like 100 people's legs and finally got seated. Damn, it was thrilling!! I admit, it was my first time watching a soccer match live at a stadium. It was extra meaningful because this was going to be the last match played at the National Stadium before it is demolished. The atmosphere was simply electric! It was like National Day, no, even better.

The sense of patriotism was amazing. I was truly proud to be Singaporean, at that point in time.. The whole stadium was decked in red and whites, save for the 2 pockets of Thai fans in yellow. The drama was worth it all.... But the Lions were truly gracious and won the game superbly.. Walking to the carpark with thousands of local supporters was quite something.. So there we have it, my first live soccer match.. Thank you again, Ms Sharon!!!

Well, today being Valentine's Day means that the streets will be packed with lovey-dovey couples armed with cheesy soft toys and bouquets of flowers.. That's not going to happen to me cos I'll be stuck having lectures tonight.. Oh well.. nice guy did say he'll buy me a bunch of pussy willows... I'll like to see him try that..

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of Valentine's Day but my romantic notions of it were spoiled by a certain ex-bf who believed in the absolutism of practicality.
So, apart from the bouquet of flowers I received on my 21st, I got not even a blade of grass thereafter. To me, V-Day is also a day to show your love for the people close to your heart. Friends who show their undying support and who never fail to be there. Family who loves you for all your idiosyncrasis.

So to my friends, thank you all for being there through the times I needed support most. For reminding me that I'm worth more than I thought myself to be.

To my family, thank you for putting up with my high and mightiness and for loving me the way I am.

To niceguy, thank you for being yourself. For helping me trust again...

Happy Valentine's Day peeps!!
